Our Missions

Cadet Programs

Squadron 49 is focused on training leaders of the future through our cadet program. Cadets learn how to lead themselves, how to lead others, how to teach, how to publicly speak, attention to detail, discipline, professionalism, drill and ceremonies, and so much more. Squadron 49 tries to help each individual cadet in achieving their long term goals. Cadets promote at their own rate. Squadron 49 tries to help parents and cadets as much as possible by providing most of the uniform items for free. Cadets of Squadron 49 are a close-knit team that enjoys a good challenge and helping each other succeed in every aspect of life.

Aerospace Education

Squadron 49 is deeply involved in aerospace education of our members and our community. We are strategically placed at the Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale alongside Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, NASA, and more. We partner frequently with local schools in providing STEM kits for science classes, guest speakers, and subject matter experts. We have designed our own programming curriculum using Arduino microcontrollers and robotics that we use to teach cadets about electronics and programming. We have also worked with drones and remote controlled planes in addition to rockets.

Emergency Services

Squadron 49 is growing our involvement into Emergency Services. Our headquarters have an adjustable directional communications antenna that can be moved to various locations throughout California. Because of this capability, we are often used as a repeater station during emergency services and search and rescue operations. We train in radio communications and are working on developing an Urban Direction Finding (UDF) team for our search and rescue operations.
